Quiet =/= Stillness

It's been quiet around here, for a lot of reasons.  Mostly, I've been working on the house, and trying to get a routine back together.  During the midst of this, I did manage to sew up four purses.  I'm rather proud of these, and I hope they do well our there on Etsy land.  Check them out!  >>>>

Exercise for Moving

What's the workout you should be doing to prepare yourself for an upcoming move?  Yoga!  I'm always an advocate (not that I look it).

If you're having to lift heavy, awkward objects, hold them for a long time, climb over things in your storage unit/apartment/home while holding them, yoga will prepare you!

Do you need to not fall into all of your valuable belongings, damaging them, and you?  Yoga can give you the balance you require!

Want the mental stamina to get you through hours of this grueling labor?  Center yourself with this ancient practice!

All I can say is, I really wouldn't have survived this weekend if I hadn't been working towards that perfect half-moon pose.

Excitement!

I have only a brief update for you:

The house buying thing is going well so far.
So is the wedding planning.
The arting, gardening, etc, has all kind of been put on hold.  But once we get in the house and I have a space where I can leave my stuff out, watch out!

I'm so excitement!  Yes, excitement, not just excited!

So it's off to the south for the weekend to relax, and take care of business.  Who knew you could do both?

Keep On Moving!

Well, it's official.  We're moving out of our apartment in about a month, likely into my parents' house.

You're absolutely right.  I would prefer to move into a newly purchased home.  But this may be a great opportunity to save up a little extra money, and to pay down some debt.  And there's still that silly matter of a wedding to attend to.

How did this happen, you ask?  Well you see, we have some friends who were planning to move into our apartment complex at the end of April, but they could only get a one-bedroom apartment.  Obviously not their first choice.  We called about getting out of our lease, should we find a home.  Turns out that if we found someone to move in, things go much more smoothly for us.  So we asked our friends how they liked it, thinking we'd be making our offer on a house today.   And well, that didn't work out.  So rather than leave our friends as disappointed as we are, we're ending the cycle.  And well, it may very well work out better for us in the end anyway.

I'll be so glad when this is all over and I don't have to move for a while!!!!

Moving With Too Much Junk

Packing up for a move makes one acutely aware of all the stuff one acquires.  I have once again been reminded that I have too much!  It's not the books that give me trouble, or the clothing.  I donate anything I haven't worn in a while, or throw away the shop clothes that have become too encrusted with paint to be comfy.  The problem is all the boxes of fabric, polyfil, paper, wood, paint, and tools.  The problem is the amount of supplies that I have.

What's exciting, however, is my new-found ability to create and SELL my work!  Does anyone know what that means?  That means I can make all the stuff I love to make, and then GET RID OF IT!  While I'd love to start in and get to sewing right this second, I can't possibly.  But I have a goal: work at least every other night, creating, photographing, posting and selling items made with all the supplies I already have, and use it all up before I am allowed to buy anything new.

The Rules:
- No new supplies, except finishing touches, or contruction-based needs (thread, glue, etc.)
- Work every other night
- Minimum of one piece completed and posted per week
- Deadline: Dec. 31, 2010.

I want to make this kind of creative pace a habit, not a fight.  It has proven a difficult thing to do since college, but now that I'm getting back in to it, I'm feeling more and more myself.  At this point, I'm not sure if I have set a realistic deadline, but I think that will make itself clear rather soon.  So I have two projects that must be complete by next week:  Adrienne's Apron, and the Castle Klaamyer, both commissioned pieces, so they won't exactly be postings.  Should I count them towards my weekly goal?
