Block A Thon Starts Tomorrow!

Tomorrow is day 1 of the block a thon!  know what that means?
I'm going to be a knitting fool for the next month!
9" blocks, in sets of 12, or 20.  I'm shooting for 2 sets of 12.  Think I can manage?

Guess we'll find out.
Let the knitting begin!

Knitting Lace by Chart

I'm new to reading a knitting chart, and I've never done lace work before.  So here I am doing both.  Getting lost, pulling stitches, redoing work.  I came up with an idea to help keep track of where I am in the chart.  I print it, stick it in one of those clear protective presentation sheet protector thingies.  Then, you can write on it with those wet-erase markers made for projectors.  I found a set at work, and well, who uses projectors anymore?  :)

You could easily use this for counted cross-stitch, small patterns, probably loads of other things.
Works like a dream!

This Crazy Life

There are two reasons I haven't been blogging much.

1) I'm planning a wedding.  *EEEEE!*
2) I'm hunting for a house.

Don't ask me why they're both happening at the same time.  They just are.  But why would I try to stop life from going so well?

New crafty endeavors to come - monsters for a colleague.  :)

Knitting Block-a-thon

Not that I need another reason to knit or crochet, but I found one.  Casting On Love is holding a block-a-thon contest.  Knit as many 9" blocks as you can in the month of march.  But the best part, is it's all in the name of charity!  I've been looking for a way to get rid of a lot of my stash.  How perfect is this?  I'm not saying I'll be the contest winner.  I'm DEFINITELY not saying that, but I like the idea.  Why on earth haven't I come across this before?

The Ugly Blanket

I have been horribly neglectful of my blog.  For that, I apologize.  Here's some pictures of the ugly blanket, for which I used this pattern.  It's a very dense, very warm stitch, so it took a long time.  I have about 24 hours of work in this thing.  My friends were so pleased with it, they actually argued over whose blanket it really was.  Good times!

Hazel took a liking to the ugly blanket very early on.  You can't tell, but it's only about 8" long in this photo.  That dog had to be on top of it, every time I worked on it. But she's too cute to say no to!

I can't believe I accidentally used a modern version of this color scheme in my living room...

The Art Show!

As you know, one week ago Saturday, I had my very first real deal art show.  That is, one that I earned, by being good at what I do.  This is HUGELY different from the student art shows I've always participated in prior to this.  It was crazy exciting!  No, I didn't stay the entire time.  The music wasn't exactly my style, and the scene was, well it was the art scene.  But strangers were looking at my stuff!  I have no idea how a sale will work, and though I said I'd bring stuff for consignment in the shop, I have yet to do so.  It's been a busy week at work, and needless to say, my at home time has been filled with much more laziness and daydreaming than really anything else.

In preparation for the show, I attempted to make business cards at home.  That didn't so much work.  My printer is out of alignment or something.  It's a cheapy that I bought in 2004.  I'm lucky it still prints so beautifully!  If only it could have printed with the card cutouts... Needless to say, I'll have to have some professionally done.

Now that the ugly blanket is complete, I'm making painting the priority for a while.  Crafting won't be absent for long, I can't resist it.  Especially since yesterday I found a cute dog hoodie knitting pattern, and I have a bunch of leftover yarn.  I think Hazel will look lovely in gold!  But she'll also appreciate that I'm a happy dog mom, painting my little heart out!  This weekend, it's panel preparation, and then I'll be able to work steadily throughout the week.

Here's to doing what you love!
